#826 – Commitment

Starting a new series on Netflix is always a big investment, time wise and emotionally speaking. You want to make sure you’re ready for the level of commitment watching a multiple-season show requires before you go down the rabbit hole. Netflix is littered with the half-watched series of yesteryear.

That being said, I am about to pull the trigger on finally watching Farscape. Pray for me.

#825 – Anxiety

I don’t really like directly addressing this sort of stuff. I mulled over whether or not to even post this comic today. But this is the sort of thing that happens when I don’t have a joke lined up: I get personal and overshare.

I’ve had anxiety issues for ages. I always masked it pretty well (better than my organizational issues, at any rate), but it’s gotten harder in recent years. The Wife, who often seems to know my mind before I do, told me I should get therapy. Not as a joke or a sarcastic dismissal, but as a legitimate concern for my mental and emotional well being.

So I did. Finally, after months of her prompting.

And…I’ll be honest. It’s hard. Really hard, some days. Sometimes I don’t want to do it. Sometimes I just want to hide from some of the things I’m learning about myself. But…well, sometimes you have to go through the rough bits to get to the good stuff in life. There aren’t any shortcuts here, sadly.

And really I do think I’ll be a better person for all of this in the end. It’s just that some days, I don’t feel like cracking a joke. Some days, I don’t have any jokes to crack. And some days, cracking a joke will be all that’s between me and a breakdown. But I’ve got some good supports in place, I’m surrounded by love, and I can get through this. Drawing comics is a good release valve for me, most days.

So anyway, regular broadcast resumes tomorrow, probably with a joke about Star Wars.

#824 – Godwin’s Law

Godwin’s Law – that any discussion on the Internet, if it goes on long enough, will eventually feature someone comparing a person or idea to Hitler and Nazism – is one of those things that you see happen all too often. Stupid Internet.

#823 – Comics Confessions

I honestly think that, if I never read Watchmen ever again, I wouldn’t feel any sort of tremendous loss. Yeah, I understand it’s an important work and all that. I get that it showed comics can tell Serious Stories, though we (comics readers) need to have a conversation as a community about how “serious” apparently has to for some reason include rape.

I mean, is there anyone out there who actually enjoys reading Watchmen? Someone who reads it for pleasure, and not because it’s part of some canon of Serious Graphic Novels?

#820 – Let It Go

Look, I totally get that this is one of the few movies for children that depicts girls as being independent and capable and off doing their own thing and not needing a guy. That’s awesome. But it doesn’t hide the fact that the songs are mediocre at best and there’s only about ten minutes of actual plot to the thing.

Yeah, that’s right: I said “Let It Go” was mediocre. Come at me, Internet.
