Sketch a Day, Day 466

On my brother’s recommendation, I watched the movie Echotone this evening. It’s a strange documentary, examining a number of Austin musicians trying to “make it” on their own terms or create the music they want to or whatever. Most of them come across as too precious or twee or pretentious or whatever. It’s a weird movie, but probably worth watching if you’re a musician yourself.

  1. We were really chuffed that Gotye – ‘Wally’ De Backer – got 3 Grammy Awards this year for an album he wrote and recorded pretty much entirely on his own in his mum and dad’s shed. Proud that a) he’s an Aussie/Belgian b) he’s actually incredibly musically talented and can play, compose and sing etc c) he has never been on any reality TV show d) he collaborates with a lot of great local artists to produce wildly arty videos which most people can’t work out & e) he always seems charming and super humble. His short doco might be nice to watch if you’re feeling a bit out of love with the modern day musician http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZXLyeatI0s
