We did a bit of a Dr. Who marathon today, cruising through most of season four. The two-part Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead story, written by current show runner Stephen Moffat, gets me every time. Like, tears running down my face gets me.

I don’t know if the comic carries the message quite as clearly as I wanted. Don’t get me wrong, I think First Amendment freedoms – especially freedom of speech – are the most important freedoms we have (yes, even more important than yer right t’guns), and everyone should have the opportunity to speak their mind on things.

What gets me are the people who are suddenly experts on every incident that crops up in the news. The armchair politicians. The weekend lawyers. The people who think they know better than the professionals.

Now, I’ll be the first to admit I am a know it all. I have no problems weighing in on the actions of Congress, the latest scandals, or the travesty of justice that is something like the Zimmerman verdict from this weekend. But at no point do I claim to know all the facts.
