Ahhh, Teacher Work Day, you are my favorite!

I really think this would be a great way to settle disputes again. I mean, we’re returning to downright medieval ways of treating women and minorities, so why not go the whole nine yards and bring back trial by combat and ordeal?

Winter Break is over, and it’s back to work. Booo, indeed.

The students seem to get younger and younger every year.

The Great British Baking Show, if you haven’t seen it, is a piece of brilliance. Amateur bakers from across the UK compete, but in such a genteel and politely British way that it’s super-endearing and very charming.
Also, I do have a friend, Wendy, who is traveling to China soon to teach theater there. It’s very exciting, and now she can say she’s been in the comic, too.

You try to create an interesting, fun project for the kids to do in the last couple of weeks of the school year, and they have no interest in it. Go figure.

The Virginia Standards of Learning (or SOLs), as the end of course tests are called, are a difficult time for the students. For some, their score is not quite high enough for a pass, but it is high enough they can do an expedited retake in a week or two and hopefully raise their score high enough for a pass.

I’ve been teaching for over a decade, and I still feel like a fake and an impostor every time I have to talk to my students’ parents. It’s annoying and I hate it.
