Sketch a Day, Day 77

Anyone who has ever been in a Wal-Mart during hunting season has seen this.

Seriously, it seems like they'd cancel each other out.

I get why hunters wear these things, and I’m sure the deer don’t have sophisticated-enough eyes or whatever to be able to tell that someone is wearing a highlighter-yellow vest over their camouflage, but I still find it funny that people put on camo and then cover it with something called a “high-visibility vest.” That seems counter-productive at best.

I totally screwed up the panel order in today’s comic. I have added helpful guide arrows to show you correct reading order.

Anyway, my sister-in-law is taking cake decorating classes, and as a result is baking a heckuva lot of cakes lately. Not that I mind, of course, but I am the primary cake eater in the house, which has led to some speculation…

This is pretty true to life.

Sketch a Day, Day 75

I really do not like needles. At all. I would make a terrible heroin addict, ’cause I’d always be trying to find other ways to get the stuff into my system. Needles skeeve me the hell out.

Anyway, today I had to go to the doctor and get some blood drawn for routine labs. I have notoriously difficult to find veins: they’re deep, small, and tend to roll when a nurse attempts to stab them with a needle. I’ve had times when they tried both arms and both hands and still not hit a vein. Meanwhile, I’m in needle-stuck agony and trying very hard not to pass out (I really do not like needles). They usually end up having more luck with my hands than the inside of my elbows, so nowadays we just go straight to the hand.

Anyway, long story short, I had blood drawn today. And then I did a drawing of blood drawing. It’s some recursive nonsense up in here.

I'm sure the needle only FEELS that big. Also, a bucket of blood seems excessive.

Sketch a Day, Day 74

We’ve all been working out in this household, by which I mean myself, my wife, and my two sisters-in-law. My wife’s been doing things with something called a kettlebell, which I’d sure as hell never heard of, but apparently it’s quite strenuous. Even now, four days after the fact, she complains of the pain in her legs.

The extra space is really quite nice.

I finally bit the bullet. I got bigger index cards for the daily sketches.

Seriously, I was doing two- and three-panel comics every day, and it was becoming difficult to cram any kind of detail into such a small space. So I grabbed the next size up.

And promptly couldn’t think of anything to draw.

So tiny...so alone...

Sketch a Day, Day 72

My wife is doing the whole low-carb thing. It’s been going well for her; everything she’s doing defies traditional health sense (more meat! More fat! Screw whole grains!), but there’s been some definite benefits from the whole deal.

Anyway, what it means for me is that I get giant chunks of meat for dinner each night, which makes me happy because I’m basically a meatetarian. Last night, she made ribs.

All of which is a convoluted way of telling you that I got to have leftover ribs for lunch today and you didn’t, so there.

Meat!

Sketch a Day, Day 71

My wife and her sisters put little face stickers all over their water bottles the other day. It’s cute, but I also find it a little disturbing…

Also, I’m not particularly happy with the drawing in the first panel. I mean, there’s something not at all right about the left arm on me. Don’t even get me started on the knees.

Seriously, she's drinking the bottle's BRAINS!
