Sketch a Day, Day 85

Yup, that looks about right.

Today was President’s Day, so there was no school. I went in to work anyway and managed to get quite a lot done. I also, not coincidentally, took my Adderall today for the first time since Friday, and the results were pretty awesome.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned about my ability to fall asleep at a reasonable hour tonight. I’d already messed up my sleep schedule over the long weekend, and the Adderall usually keeps me up late, and I didn’t take it until late this morning, so…yeah, I may be awake at 4:00 AM.

My wife is on one of her British mystery program kicks again. This time, it’s Midsomer Murders. It does seem to me that there are an awful lot of murders in these sleepy English villages, do much so that I’m surprised there’s anyone left living in them at all.

Pandering to a new audience? I have no idea what you're talking about.

I actually watched the last few minutes of a basketball game a week or two ago, and it happened to feature that Jeremy Lin guy everyone’s talking about. Looks like if he keeps practicing, he could go far. Maybe play for the NBA, even (y’know, for a team that isn’t the Knicks (I don’t pay attention to sports, and even I know the Knicks suck)).

This is not really an exaggeration.

So we heard on the radio this morning that George Washington University is having a serious outbreak of the Nora Virus. It’s not too terrible, though it sounds like it’s none too pleasant to deal with for the few days it’s in your system. My wife, of course, reacted by Lysoling her entire classroom. Heavily.

So she’ll probably be the first to get sick from this thing, according to the Law of Murphy.

Y'know, when they're legally prescribed by a qualified medical professional.

So Monday, my doctor prescribed Adderall to me for my difficulties in focusing and organization. It’s been several years I’ve had these issues (ever since I got out of graduate school, really), and my childhood was filled with organizational catastrophes. College and graduate school were alright, but I was drinking a helluva lot of soda with plenty of caffeine back then.

Anyway, yesterday was my first day on the Adderall. It went…pretty much as you see above. I felt very focused and very alert all day yesterday (and today as well), and got a heck of a lot accomplished. Not only that, I felt more positive and patient, able to better-deal with all the ridiculousness that comes with teaching a bunch of kids with learning disabilities.

I hope it continues, honestly, though the drop off in the evening as the medication wears off is downright odd. Guess we’ll see what happens.

Anyone who has ever been in a Wal-Mart during hunting season has seen this.

Seriously, it seems like they'd cancel each other out.

I get why hunters wear these things, and I’m sure the deer don’t have sophisticated-enough eyes or whatever to be able to tell that someone is wearing a highlighter-yellow vest over their camouflage, but I still find it funny that people put on camo and then cover it with something called a “high-visibility vest.” That seems counter-productive at best.
